Custom applications and systems

Web and mobile platforms and internal systems designed around the process and scale of a large organisation.

Overview

We build software where off-the-shelf tools stop being enough: systems for operations teams, transactional platforms, portals for customers and partners, mobile applications for field and warehouse teams.

A project starts with a process map and conversations with future users. From these we define the scope of the first release, an interface prototype and the architecture. Further stages are delivered in two-week iterations, with a working test version available to the client's team.

We design the architecture for the target scale, from a tool for a single department to products handling heavy traffic, running in the cloud or on Kubernetes. Applications are connected to the systems already in use at the company: ERP, WMS, CRM, HR and finance systems.

Scope of work

  • Process analysis and first release scope
  • Interface prototype tested with users
  • Web application, mobile application or both
  • Integrations with company systems
  • Automated tests and a test environment
  • Code, documentation and team training

Project flow

  1. 01

    Analysis and scope

We map the process, talk to users and define the scope of the first release. This usually takes 2-3 weeks and ends with a quote.

  2. 02

    Prototype

We design the interface and check it with the people who will use it. Changes at this stage are the cheapest.

  3. 03

    Iterative build

Every two weeks we deliver a working increment to the test environment. The client's team gives feedback as we go.

  4. 04

    Launch and maintenance

We deploy the system to production, train users, and either take over maintenance or hand the project to the client's IT team.

When it makes sense

  • The process relies on spreadsheets, e-mail and manual re-entry of data between systems.
  • Off-the-shelf software forces a change to the process that has no business justification.
  • Customers or partners need access to orders, documents or statuses without contacting the support team.
  • Field or warehouse staff need a simple tool on a phone or a scanner.

Technologies

Technologies are selected to suit the project and the client's environment. The ones we most often work with:

  • TypeScript
  • React
  • Next.js
  • React Native
  • Node.js
  • Python
  • PostgreSQL
  • AWS
  • Kubernetes
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

It depends on the process. During the analysis we compare both options in terms of cost, time and constraints. If an off-the-shelf tool is sufficient, we recommend it.
